My life has changed so much since I found Beachbody and while I’ve had my fair share of ups and down, failures and setbacks, I have always come back to the same place and that is Beachbody! Their culture doesn’t promote a quick fix or magic pill. It promotes clean eating and permanent, sustainable lifestyle change. Lifestyle changes don’t happen overnight. In fact, my changes have been going on since 2010! And although I still make mistakes, skip a workout or eat something I shouldn’t, in the grand scheme of things I am becoming healthier and happier… and THAT is what it is all about!
So I thought I would share with you a before/after photo, even though I still have 27lbs to reach my goal weight. The picture on the left is me at 285lbs. The picture on the right is me at 199lbs! I am now 187lbs and just started a new program: Insanity Max:30. My goal weight is 160lbs.
This picture is the one that won me $500 CASH from Beachbody! I submitted them as my before and after photos and pretty soon was contacted about being a winner! If I can do it, so can you.
Here is my success story:
Prior to finding Beachbody I had struggled with unhealthy eating habits all my life. As a teenager I suffered from low self esteem and poor body image. I would say I had disordered eating and was a compulsive over-exerciser when I was younger, although I was never formally diagnosed with any kind of eating disorder. I never felt like I was well-liked and so I thought being thinner would make people like me more. I was wrong.
Thankfully, I did make some good friends and by the time I graduated high school, I had a much stronger self esteem and was happy with how I looked. I was very active, but not overly so and was a good, healthy weight.
When I went off to college I remained active but started to swing to the other end of the spectrum – compulsive overeating. I had a strong self-image by this point and it seemed I could eat and not gain much, so I did. I gained the “Freshman 15” but since I was still within a healthy weight range, I didn’t worry about it. In fact, I would say that I went into denial about my eating habits…
Soon I was having my first child. Then two years later I had twins. Six months after having the twins I was pregnant again with my 4th. I had four children within 4 years! My weight was in the 180’s after my 4th child. A few years later, I had ballooned to 265lbs! I was avoiding the scale by this point and it wasn’t until I saw a picture of me while camping at the lake with my family that I realized just how big I had gotten. I stepped on the scale and saw 285lbs. I was mortified.
In 2010, A friend of mine gave me their P90X discs that they were no longer using, insisting that I give the program a try. Defeated by the scale, but doubtful I could do such an intense program, I resolved to give it a shot. The first week was KILLER! But the second week I started seeing results! I lost 60lbs, even though I didn’t finish the full 90 days of the program. Circumstances in my life caused me to lose focus on my fitness and I ended up returning to my old habits and regaining some of the weight.
In 2011 Health issues started to creep up. I had previously been “Obese but healthy” according to my doctor. But now I was having blood sugar issues, gallbladder attacks and what I believe were liver issues as well. I suffered from frequent migraines and my blood pressure was creeping into the hypertension range. Defeated again I realized it was time to do something and make it real or I wouldn’t be around to see my grandchildren.
In January 2013 I resolved to take control of my life once and for all. Although my habits had improved, I still wasn’t where I needed to be. My children, now ages 9-12, could no longer be used as my excuse as to why I weighed so much. I felt better and healthier but I was still obese and suffering from occasional health issues.
I was 233lbs when I started up P90X again and this time I finished the whole 90 days! I 20lbs and an astounding 26.75 total inches! (6.75″ from my abdomen). I am now happy, confident, off all medications and best of all – ALL of my health problems have disappeared!!!! I know for a fact that without Beachbody I would have continued to struggle with my weight and my self-image – likely resorting to fad dieting, overexercising, pills or other quick fixes. Beachbody taught me to clean up my eating, to “do my best and forget the rest” and to “keep pushing play”. I drink Shakeology every day too and I know that I wouldn’t have had half the results I’ve had without it. I am an entirely different person now and I couldn’t be happier.
In 2014, I had reached 100lbs and finally was able to realize one of my dreams – joining the Army! I joined the Kansas National Guard and lost another 15lbs while away for Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training. I am now back home and serving one weekend a month, two weeks a year, drinking my Shakeology and doing my workouts. I now help others reach their weight loss and fitness goals and couldn’t be happier!
Thank you Beachbody!
